Monday, 11/12/12
Daily Objective:

  • Assess my current knowledge of U3P3 words
  • Prepare my group’s display of evidence in support of a persuasive topic (What caused Poe’s death?)
  • Understand how to take annotated notes while reading a novel.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • Media Center “field trip” to set-up for Day 1 of “Campaigns”--- put numbers by each presentation; check to make sure technology is working, etc.
    • Vote
  • (Back in classroom) Take U3P3 pre-test & correct answers together
  • With any remaining time, students can start HW: make sure M.B. Chapter 3 study guide is complete (M.B. Handout #5)
    • Continue to take annotated notes (modeled in class) of figurative language and other literary devices in book.
HW:
  • If M.B. Chapter 3 study guide is still incomplete (from last Thursday), finish it before class tomorrow.
  • WW pgs 62-65 due Wednesday; pgs 66-67 due Thursday; prepare for Posttest on Friday

  • Respond to comprehensive & inferential questions about Miracle’s Boys.
  • Identify author’s writing style & use of figurative language
  • Make predictions of what’s to come, using your current knowledge of characters and plot.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda

  • Discuss Chapter 3 Study Guide
  • Distribute Chapter 4-7 Study Guides
  • Listen to/read chapters 4-6 in class and complete study guides (M.B. Handouts #6-9)
HW:
  • WW pgs. 62-65 due tomorrow (Wed); pgs. 66-67 due Thursday; prepare for Posttest on Friday
  • Read Chapter 6 and complete Ch. 4-6 study guides due tomorrow (Wed.)

Wednesday, 11/14/12

  • Understand the book’s characters, conflicts and setting (through discussion).
  • Identify examples of figurative language used.
  • Understand the difference between internal & external characterization.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • Check WW pgs 62-65 for completion.
  • Chapter 4-6 “Pop” Quiz (“Congratulations” to those of you checking the wiki page for HW and lessons!) :)
  • Discuss Chapters 4-6 with study guides.
    • Add to annotated notes in these chapters
    • Correct Writing Style Scavenger Hunt (figurative language, internal & external characterization)
HW:
  • pgs. 66-67 due Thursday; prepare for Posttest on Friday

Thursday, 11/15/12
Daily Objective:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the book’s characters, conflicts and setting
  • Connect to the characters through writing.
  • Analyze the author’s use of a flashback in the novel.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • Begin chapter 4-7 Journal Writing (HW) while I stamp pgs 62-67
  • Check WW pgs 66-67 for completion and correct answers for pgs 62-67
  • Finish discussion over Chapter 6 figurative language & literary devices, if needed.
  • Begin reading Chapter 7 & completing Study Guide questions
HW:
  • Finish Journal Prompts- due tomorrow
  • Study for U3P3 posttest tomorrow.

Friday, 11/16/12
Daily Objective:
“I will…
  • Demonstrate mastery of U3P3 word
  • Apply practice of literary devices including internal, external, direct and indirect characterization and flashback.
Procedure:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What is/are today’s objective(s)?
  • Take U3P3 posttest
  • Collect Journal Prompts
  • Finish reading Chapter 7 in class (if needed) and complete/discuss Study Guide in groups.
HW:
  • Make sure your Chapter 7 Study Guide is complete.
  • Review literary devices learned this week: internal characterization (Chapter 5), external characterization (Chapter 3), flashback (Chapter 6) and indirect characterization (Chapter 7)

Next Week:
  • Receive Unit 3 (30-word) Study Guide in preparation for Unit 3 test after Thanksgiving
  • Chapter 8 (and maybe 9) of Miracle’s Boys
